Meintjes's Graceland Article- My Backlash

I am sure other people in our class feel the same way as me (Brian to name one person) about Meintjes's arguments in this article, namely that they disagree with him. I am not sure that he even adequately supports the attacks he makes on Simon, and I would therefore like to list a few of his declarations that completely struck me as preposterous before I forget them.
1. "The absence of direct semantic references to apartheid in South Africa promotes the ambiguity of the political orientation of the album itself."
+So what? Who cares?
2. "The front cover depicts an Ethiopian effigy..."
+Really? How?
3. Overall, why is Meintjes trying to pass such fervent political judgement on this album when Simon himself said Graceland was not conceived in political terms? It reminds me of the creationist argument against evolution--self-contradictory and completely out of place. I think that Meintjes needs to take his argumentative self to a more relevant topic.
