Class Comments on Donny Rhine Presentation

  1. It was really interesting to hear about the origins of Techno. In my ignorance, I actually thought for some reason it came around in the 60s, faded, and then exploded in Europe and the US. TOTALLY wrong. Upon reflection, I'm not terribly surprised that there were (and are) so many prejudices against techno in America, although at first I was surprised that Americans didn't jump on board while Europeans did. I guess we have so many things going on in our culture, it's hard for us to accept something completely fresh and new if there isn't a precedent somewhere? Who knows. Anyway, all of the stereotypes people have about techno are fairly typical. I was wondering though, were the stereotypes that forced techno underground in its origins the same as the ones we see today?

And finally, I stressed the influence of Kraftwerk in the presentation and I wanted to give an example of them.
